After a half-hour rant session with my peers about the uncomfortable shape of an umbrella grip and someone’s reported tragic experience of bumping into an un-lit street light at night, I hoped to create an ergonomically designed umbrella that solves two of the main problems we identified.

Research
To build the best umbrella ever, I started by brainstorming the features of one.
Idea Sketch
I sketched out various iterations of the brella, each depicting unique shape and form. From the sketches below, I’ve sent out a survey asking which product people would prefer using the most. The highlighted one was voted the most, and I proceeded to design it to come to life.

Detachable Flashlight
Ever been frightened while walking down Locust at 1am with your phone battery at 0%? Don't worry - this umbrella will keep you safe. You can turn the light left or right to turn it on/off, and press/pull to completely detach it from the umbrella body.
LED-Embedded Handle
This handle will allow you to put your fingers inside to have a more comfortable grip of your umbrella. You can also hold the outer rims of the umbrella if you wish. Also, the interior and the rims will have lighting to safely guide you when walking through rain in the dark.
